The Cadence and Olympique Triathlon Clubs’ 2004 Training Camp
This year again, the Cadence and Olympique Triathlon Clubs’ training camp was a great success. The weather was much better than initially forecast, which allowed us to train in good conditions (with the exception of the Monday). There was something for everyone: hills of all different gradients for experienced triathletes, technical guidance for beginners. We even managed to film the majority of the 50 or so participants during training runs (thank you Isabelle “Iron-Doc” Mallette, for taking the time to film everyone). There were swimming, cycling and running workouts adapted to all levels of ability (beginners to advanced), workshops of all kinds (bike mechanics, running technique, cycling technique, etc…), music and fun during the evenings, smiles all day long, and new friendships established. In addition, everyone seemed to break free from their daily routines. Furthermore, there no accidents (minor or major!) to disrupt the weekend.

Special thanks to Nicolas Bergeron and Viviane Rochon for coordinating registration for the camp and taking care of accounting matters (it is not easy to keep track of more than 50 people, especially with last-minute cancellations and changes). Thank you also to Valérie Michalk for her two greatly appreciated conferences (self-massage and progressive muscular relaxation for athletes) and for her sports massage services for those of our triathletes who were feeling a little stiff… Thank you to Isabelle Mallette for having filmed the participants during training runs, for her free Active Release Treatment services, and for her valuable advice on training, injury prevention and healing. Thanks to Frédéric Audet for having made bookings at the Ofuro Spa; our legs were ready for training again the following day! (By the way, Fred, there have been requests to include the Spa on future occasions, so we will be making it part of the plans for the coming outings). Thank you also to René Mailhot for his speech during the closing dinner, which really touched me… Finally, thanks to all the participants in the 2004 camp, for taking part, and for your kindness and enthusiasm. New bonds were formed during the weekend, which bode well for a great season ahead for us all!!

As coach, my objective was to provide you with as many tools as possible to help start off your 2004 season, to instil confidence in those who were uncertain as to what to change before the beginning of the season (with guidance on what to work on and how, to allow for fulfilling personal objectives in accordance with each athlete’s own level of abilities) and to re-motivate those whose interest was flagging or who were recovering from injury. Witnessing the high levels of motivation and the spirit of friendship among all camp participants, and having received your many thanks, I am proud of the outcome and believe that I have fulfilled my objective.

I wish you all a very successful 2004 triathlon/duathlon season. Keep on engaging in this magnificent sport, setting personal challenges and high goals, and exceeding your own limitations. Above all, keep up that spirit of friendship and your enjoyment of the pleasure of movement!!

Have a great season in 2004!!
